Franklin taps Columbia Threadneedle for alternatives hire

US fund manager is aiming to build its business in an area of high demand from investors

Franklin Templeton Investments has appointed George Szemere to head up its alternative sales business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Szemere joins from Columbia Threadneedle Investments, where he spent more than 10 years, most recently as head of liquid alternatives and global strategic relations for Emea distribution. He has also held roles at ABN Amro Asset Management and Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
