The UK’s audit watchdog has criticised the government for watering down key reforms that would have tightened up accounting practices.

The government published a consultation on restoring trust in audit and corporate governance on 31 May, which sets out plans for a new regulator with more enforcement powers funded by an industry-wide levy.
