Early tallies in the closely watched French presidential election on Sunday showed centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron and far-right Marine Le Pen set to make it to the second and final round on May 7, MarketWatch reports.
Macron took about 23.7% of the vote and Le Pen took 21.7%, going by preliminary exit polls from Ipsos cited in French reports. Eleven candidates stood in the first round ballot, which had a turnout of 69.4%, reports said.
