French government calls for tougher regulation of private equity

The French government has urged regulators to look more closely at the private equity industry, amid growing concern that ownership of companies by financial investors is destroying jobs.

Francis Mer, finance minister, issued his request for tougher scrutiny of unlisted investments on Monday, during the official launch of the Autorité des Marchés Financiers, the newly-created financial regulator.
