French MPs scrap plans for executive pay laws

French members of Parliament have overcome their divisions over executive pay after deciding to avoid implementing new laws to regulate remunerations packages.

Pascal Clément, the MP from President Jacques Chirac's ruling UMP party who led the parliamentary enquiry, said this week that shareholders could block excessive pay by refusing to endorse companies' accounts at annual general meetings.
