Friends of the Earth, the environmental charity, is to launch a survey of the top 100 pension funds' statement of investment principles (SIPs), in a bid to benchmark funds' socially responsible investing.

Trustees must now state the extent to which social, environmental or ethical factors are taken into account in the selection, retention and realisation of investments.
