The €19bn (£13.1bn) Fonds de Réserve pour les Retraites, the French state buffer fund, is planning to appoint a consultant to find managers for private equity investments worth several hundred million euros.

Mercer, the investment consultant hired for last year's mammoth selection process of 27 investment mandates, is understood to be one of the advisers pitching for the business.
