Margaret Cole is to become the most senior female regulator in the UK after being appointed director of enforcement at the Financial Services Authority, the city regulator.

The FSA already has three other female directors: Sarah Wilson, director of high street firms, Gay Huey Evans, director of markets and exchanges and Anna Bradley, director of retail themes.
