FSA calls for new rational Basel capital rules for fund managers

Howard Davies, chairman of the Financial Services Authority, is confident that controversial Basel proposals on operational risk will be resolved in investment firms' favour.

Speaking at the Fund Forum International 2001 in Monaco, Davies gave an upbeat assessment of a review of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's proposals to increase the amount of capital that investment firms would have to reserve against operational risk. He believes that banks and fund management houses must be treated differently.
