FSA review could boost alternative trading systems

The Financial Services Authority, the UK securities regulator, has launched a widespread review into its rules on best execution, which could dramatically boost the fortunes of alternative trading systems such as Instinet and Virt-X.

The review has been prompted by the proliferation in what the FSA calls 'execution venues', such as Instinet, Virt-X and E-Crossnet, where shares are traded electronically away from the London Stock Exchange.
