The FTSE 100 was down 0.3% to 6,987.01, as trading began in the last week before the Christmas break. The benchmark on Friday picked up 0.2% to end at 7,011,64, the highest close since October 25. Last week, the index rose 0.8%, for a second straight week of gains.
