Fund managers ‘horrified’ at City talk of closing markets

Stock pickers say closing trading venues in response to market swings will exacerbate problems when they reopen

Talk of a potential lockdown in London has spooked traders in the City, after a cohort voiced support for a temporary shutdown of stock markets as the coronavirus crisis strains their ability to do their jobs from makeshift home offices.

But the idea of closing markets completely has met fierce resistance from former business secretary Vince Cable, and now from another influential contingent: fund managers.
