Gartmore gives up soft commissions

Gartmore, the UK fund management firm owned by Nationwide Mutual, is abandoning the practice of using soft commissions to pay its broker fees. Gartmore has made the move following fierce criticism of soft commission arrangements by its chairman, Paul Myners.

Myners has backed down on a controversial recommendation in his report, commissioned by the UK government, that commissions should be rolled into manager fees, following representations from the industry.
