Gartmore has been hit by the first round of departures following its takeover by Nationwide Mutual Insurance, with the ousting of Helen Marsden, a director of institutional investment, and Lewis McNaught head of retail.

The surprise loss of two Gartmore veterans comes just weeks after Paul Myners, executive chairman of Gartmore, promised that there would be no changes to the organisation following the £1.03bn purchase.
