US Treasury Secretary nominee Timothy Geithner on Wednesday apologised to members of the Senate Finance Committee for tax errors he committed earlier this decade that came to light during his nomination process.

"These were careless mistakes. They were avoidable mistakes, but they were unintentional," Geithner said. "I should have been more careful."
