Private equity firm General Atlantic has appointed its president as the chief executive of the firm, as part of its leadership succession.

The transition began last year when William Ford was appointed president and Steven Denning became chairman of the firm. Ford will take the reins as chief in the beginning of January. A company spokeswoman said there will be no replacement for his current role as president.
