Admiral’s descendant Anson charts own course in private equity

HarbourVest boss has overseen an increase in assets under management from $3.5 billion to $44 billion in less than 20 years

George Anson keeps a pair of pocket globes in his office at private equity manager HarbourVest Partners base in Mayfair. These antique mini globes show the route his ancestor, Admiral of the Fleet George Anson, took to circumnavigate the world in 1742.

He also has first editions of a book chronicling the voyage and photos on his iPad of a 5ft high portrait of the Admiral that hangs over his mantelpiece at home.
