Gilts' Olympic lustre may fade

UK government bonds outperformed those of Germany and the US during the Olympics. But as the glow from the games fades, so too might gilts

It hasn't only been on track and field that Great Britain has shone recently.

Fittingly during the Olympics, UK government debt, or gilts, has outperformed German government bonds and US Treasuries, with yields rising only a small amount despite a rally in riskier assets that was sparked by the European Central Bank's latest attempt to rein in the eurozone crisis.
