Global realignment sparks revival in FX market

Foreign exchange trading volumes have started the year with a bang amid large moves in several key currency pairs

After a year that saw currency trading volume decline for the first time since the global financial crisis, foreign-exchange trading has sprung back to life this year as some major shifts in key exchange rates have pulled players back into the market.

"The year has started with a bang for foreign-exchange volumes," said Adrian McGowan, head of currencies trading for Europe and global head of forex forwards and options at Barclays in London.
