Interbrew, the Belgian brewery, has turned to Goldman Sachs and Lazard to explore a possible takeover of South African Breweries (SAB).

Interbrew said in a statement on Wednesday that it &quothad undertaken a preliminary analysis of SAB as part of its routine annual review of the leading brewers of the world&quot. The company said the analysis was at a very preliminary stage that &quotmay or may not lead to an offer for SAB at some time in the future&quot and confirmed &quotthat no approach has been made on the matter&quot.
