Goldman Sachs has hired a new head of its Iberian financing division following the departure of several bankers from the business.
Carlos Pertejo joins from Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria and reports to Matthew Westerman, co-head of European financing, and Huan del Rivero, head in Spain. His appointment follows the departures of José Antonio Carretero, who left to become co-head of distribution for Iberia at Dresdner Kleinwort in May, and former Iberia coverage head Javier Lazaro, who has moved to Credit Suisse. David Jiménez-Blanco, previously head of European industrials at Goldman and a former head of investment banking for Iberia, joined Merrill Lynch in May as president of its Spanish business. Carretero was previously head of sales for Iberia in Goldman's fixed-income, currencies and commodities business. He worked at the US bank for seven years. Pertejo joined BBVA to head investor relations in 2002, moving from JP Morgan, where he was a member of the financial institutions group covering Iberia. He was also an equity analyst at the bank. In June, Goldman began rebuilding the Spanish business by hiring Rico Pedrett from Merrill Lynch to cover the bank's Iberian investment banking clients.
