Goldman Sachs is at the top of Thomson Financial's league table of leading global merger and acquisition advisers in the first half of 2001.
At the same point last year Goldman was ranked 2nd in the league table which is based on announced deals. Merrill Lynch narrowly beat Morgan Stanley this year for 2nd place, advising on $200.1bn (€237bn) worth of deals compared with its rival's $198.2bn. Goldman was ahead by a significant margin, acting on deals worth a total of $253.8bn.
