Morgan Stanley, which placed sixth last year and fourth in 2001 in the global M&A league tables has failed to make the top five so far this year while arch rival Goldman Sachs has swept the board, according to preliminary nine-month figures from Dealogic, the data provider.

While Goldman Sachs came top of the European, US and global rankings, Morgan Stanley did not reach the top five in any of the three categories.
