Promotion of global operations chief comes as the bank considers new strategic locations for doing business

Goldman names admin chief ahead of shift of EU headquarters

Goldman Sachs has appointed a new chief administrative officer — an increasingly important role as the bank considers new strategic locations for doing business, especially in the European Union.

The bank said in a memo that Laurence Stein, its global head of the operations, will take up the role on January 1. He succeeds Jeff Schroeder, a member of the bank's management committee, who is retiring after 21 years with the company.
