Under fire Goldman Sachs chief executive is unlikely to leave the top job at the Wall Street bank in the "medium term", according to a prominent banking analyst citing a meeting with the lead director of its board.

Adebayo Ogunlesi, lead director of Goldman's board, said that Solomon retains support, despite a flurry of negative press reports that have painted a picture of a widespread internal backlash from senior employees against the chief executive, according to an 18 September note from Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo.
