Goldman Sachs close to settling FHFA lawsuit for more than $1 billion

The potential Goldman settlement pertains to crisis-era mortgage securities

Goldman Sachs is nearing a deal to pay a US housing regulator more than $1 billion to settle claims the Wall Street firm failed to disclose risks on the mortgage bonds it sold ahead of the financial crisis, people familiar with the matter said.

A settlement with the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, could be announced as early as Friday, the people said.
