Goldman Sachs has launched a new alternative investments group within its merchant banking division, as chief executive David Solomon continues to shake up the business ahead of a highly anticipated investor day in January.

The US investment bank has promoted two long-serving partners, Chris Kojima and Michael Koester, to co-head a new unit called the alternative capital markets and strategy group as part of a broader strategy of ramping up revenues from private equity investments, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News.
