Goldman Sachs has cut the amount it spends on pay for London bankers by nearly 60% in the first half of 2022, reflecting what is expected to be a much leaner year for dealmaker bonuses.

The US investment bank spent just over $1bn on compensation for staff in Goldman Sachs International, which houses its European business, compared to $2.5bn a year earlier, according to accounts released this month.
