Goldman Sachs has suffered a blow in the UK by falling to tenth place in the announced mergers and acquisitions league table for 2001, and slipping out of the top 10 altogether for completed UK deals, according to data from Thomson Financial.

The M&A markets suffered a significant drop both in number and values of deals last year, and the UK was particularly badly hit compared to other European countries.
