Goldman steps up pace in Australasian drinks battle

Goldman Sachs is on the verge of boosting its Australasian profile as its client Allied Domecq moves a significant step closer to winning the seven-month battle for Montana, the New Zealand wine company.

Allied Domecq moved into pole position for its NZ$752m (€353m) offer for Montana, when Lion Nathan, Australia's second-largest brewer, withdrew its offer for the privately held company on Wednesday.
