Marty Chavez, the co-head of Goldman Sachs’s vast sales and trading business, is to step down from the US investment bank after nearly 20 years.

Chavez is a computer scientist who has been instrumental in transforming Goldman’s securities division through automation and technology. He will retire at the end of the year, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News.
