Greenwich forced to re-open schools after government threatens legal action

Greenwich Council said the request had come too late to stop schools from closing

The London borough of Greenwich is to re-open schools only a day after telling them to close, following a threat of legal action from the Department for Education.

The government had said it was considering taking action against the councils of Greenwich and Islington to keep schools in those boroughs open, after council leaders said schools should move to online learning from 15 December.
