Government under pressure to create a race charter for finance sector

The government has come under pressure to create a dedicated race charter for the financial sector, in a bid to encourage big banks, asset managers and other City employers to increase the number of black and minority ethnic (BAME) workers within their ranks.

High-profile figures from finance and politics have called on the Treasury to set up a programme for financial services, akin to the government’s Women in Finance charter, in order to address the chronic lack of racial diversity in City firms.
