Climate activist Greta Thunberg has cancelled an appearance at the Edinburgh International Book Festival after accusing its lead sponsor Baillie Gifford of “greenwashing”.

Thunberg had been scheduled to speak at an event at the annual festival on 13 August but said she would no longer attend because the Edinburgh-headquartered asset manager invests “heavily” in fossil fuels.
