GUS snubs takeover interest ahead of demerger

GUS has spurned recent takeover proposals in its credit-checking arm Experian and its retail business, which comprises Argos and Homebase, and will instead press ahead with its plan to demerge the units by October.

GUS first proposed the demerger plan in March and provided further details two months later. The company said yesterday in a statement that it "has received a number of expressions of interest in each of the two businesses in recent months".
