Hammond pledges £100m for AI in pro-business Davos pitch

But Labour accuses chancellor of simply repackaging a 2018 policy

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond will make determinedly pro-business pitch to corporate and political leaders gathered at the World Economic Forum in Davos, pledging £100m of  investment in artificial intelligence.

Hammond, who is leading the UK’s delegation in the absence of Prime Minister Theresa May, will say the money will be spent on creating 1,000 new PhD places across the UK specialising in the field.
