Hands urges full-time attention to investments

Guy Hands, chief executive of Terra Firma Capital Partners, said private equity managers needed to develop skills to run their portfolio companies more effectively to compensate for falling returns in a more competitive environment.

Hands said European buy-out managers were targeting returns above 20% but increased competition meant that the majority of these deals would fail to generate returns above 14%.
