Hedge fund trader faces jail after mutual fund probe

The mutual fund trading scandal has claimed its first criminal conviction after a trader from Millennium Partners, a large US hedge fund, pleaded guilty to charges of illegal trading.

US regulators have secured their first criminal scalp in their probe into illegal trading of mutual funds. According to the regulators, Steven Markovitz engaged in "late" trading of mutual fund shares on behalf of Millennium, a firm with more than $4bn under management.
