Cost cuts and a sharp surge in equity and prime services revenues helped BNP Paribas offset lower fixed income sales and trading in the second quarter, as profits from corporate and institutional banking rose by nearly half.

The French bank said in its latest results that its CIB unit, which houses those businesses as well as securities services and corporate banking, had a "very good quarter”, citing a 4.6% increase in revenues from a strong quarter a year earlier.
