The US Congress is to hold a hearing on the subject of hedge funds in an effort to gain an understanding of how they affect capital markets.

Michael Oxley, the Republican congressman, said that there will be at least one congressional hearing on hedge funds looking at the question of whether tighter regulatory control on the industry is necessary. The date and list of participants in the hearings are yet to be decided.
