Hedge funds up share of US fixed income

Tighter bank regulations and the rise of electronic bond trading will push more fixed income activity towards hedge funds, says US consultant

US hedge funds have increased their share of fixed income trading at the expense of banks, which are already facing lower revenues due to increased capital requirements and the rise of electronic trading.

Hedge funds generated 24% of total US fixed income trading volume in the second quarter of this year, up from 18% in the same quarter last year, according to data from consultant Greenwich Associates.
