One of UBS's top mergers and acquisitions bankers has returned from sabbatical with an upgraded global position, as the troubled Swiss institution enters a period of restructuring within its investment bank.

Hermann Prelle, formerly co-head of the Europe, Middle East and Africa investment banking department and head of the German M&A business, has rejoined the firm as chairman of M&A in Emea, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News.
