High Court rules insurers liable for ‘most’ lockdown payouts

The much anticipated judgement found that most 'disease clauses' should provide cover for business interruption during the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown

The High Court has ruled in favour of most of the companies who said their business interruption insurance policies should cover their pandemic-triggered losses — meaning UK insurers could face significant payouts.

The 15 September judgement said that “most, but not all, of the disease clauses in the sample provide cover”. However, it added that each policy will have to be considered against the judgement to work out what it means.
