Hoare & Co, the UK's oldest independent bank, has appointed Jeremy Marshall as its new chief executive, as revealed by Financial News' sister publication WealthBulletin, signalling a big change in the management of the company.

The group's chief executive Alexander Hoare is to take a sabbatical before returning to the bank in a senior position, likely to be chairman, according to a source at the bank.
