An unlikely spat has broken out in the upper echelons of America’s private equity industry.

It started on February 7 when Michael Moritz, a well-known author and venture capitalist at Sequoia Capital, launched a scathing attack on Blackstone Group founder Stephen Schwarzman and his contemporaries in a column for The New York Times.
