The chief executive of broker-dealer BGC said the launch of its interest rate futures exchange will be the first step in breaking rival CME’s stranglehold on the market.

“It is the beginning of a process of bringing fundamental competition to a market that is 100% at the CME today,” said Howard Lutnick during BGC’s second-quarter earnings call on 30 July.
