HSBC chief executive Noel Quinn and chief compliance officer Colin Bell will appear in front of MPs this week as the blue-chip bank faces scrutiny over frozen accounts of Hong Kong pro-democracy activists.

The appearance before the foreign affairs committee is scheduled for 26 January. It comes after former Hong Kong lawmaker Ted Hui called on UK lawmakers to question the FTSE 100 bank on its actions in a Facebook post on 16 January, as well as “corresponding international sanctions to be imposed upon HSBC and /or personnel who involved themselves in the cases”.
