HSBC's revenues rose by more than a third in the last quarter, a period in which the bank was less severely impacted by the falls in sales and trading that hit many of its rivals.

Monday's earnings report was the first since the bank announced that its head of retail and wealth management, John Flint, will succeed chief executive Stuart Gulliver next year.
