HSBC has finalised one of its first external hires for a renewed push into UK banking, bringing in a director from Bank of America Merrill Lynch who worked alongside the bank on the initial public offering of luxury shoemaker Jimmy Choo.

Paul Bundred, who was a director at the US bank, will join HSBC in the coming weeks, according to people familiar with the matter. The people said a second, more senior, banker would also be joining the team soon.
