HSBC has appointed a new head of its global equity capital markets business, naming a banker who used to hold the role to replace John Crompton in London.

In a memo sent to staff by Spencer Lake, global head of capital financing, and Robin Phillips, global head of banking, on Thursday afternoon, HSBC said it had handed Russell Julius the role of global head of ECM, in addition to his duties as head of commercial banking origination in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
